Before signing on as a BrightStar Care® franchisee, Dan McCoy was no stranger to the healthcare field. As an accomplished senior business executive with over 25 years of experience driving profitable growth in competitive markets, he decided it was time to retire from his fulfilling career.
As time went on, he came to realize that perhaps he had more left to give, and that’s when he decided on a new retirement plan: making a positive impact on his community.
Becoming a BrightStar Care Franchisee
One of the reasons Dan came out of retirement is because he noticed there was an important gap within his local area that needed to be filled: the need for affordable home healthcare.
As his parents and in-laws grew older, he remembered how much they relied on home health options and how expensive many of them were. He realized that he could use his experience in healthcare and business for a great cause, and it wasn’t long before he began reading more about franchise opportunities with BrightStar Care.
His local agency serving the Suffield, CT area had opened in 2011, and in February of 2022, he stepped into his role as owner and president.
“I was equipped with the tools to fulfill the potential I saw in the Suffield location and help grow it,” he explained.
Seizing the Opportunity
When asked why he chose BrightStar Care over other opportunities, Dan said it was really quite simple:
“BrightStar Care helps clients and their families in their most vulnerable times,” he explained.
He also appreciated that BrightStar Care provides a full continuum of care so that every client gets an experience personalized to their needs- from companion care to personal care and skilled medical care.
He was eager to tap into the growing multi-billion dollar industry and wanted to use his success for good.
“The fact that I get to bring jobs to the community and work with employees is one of my favorite parts. I also get to provide them with a flexible working environment where they can build their own schedules,” he explained.
Looking Ahead
As Dan enjoys the day-to-day of providing top-quality home healthcare within his community, he is looking forward to capitalizing on the knowledge and expertise provided by the BrightStar Care Start Team. From training and support in areas like operations, technology, recruiting, hiring, marketing and more, he hopes to continue learning just as much in his “new retirement plan” as he did throughout his career.
He also looks forward to building connections, partnering with other local agencies and most importantly, making a difference for families going through difficult times.
