Joshua Porter is a new BrightStar Care franchisee who is strongly committed to making a difference. His personal experiences and entrepreneurial spirit strongly influence and power his path to business ownership.
Embarking on Entrepreneurship
Josh’s background is in mechanical engineering, but most recently he worked for Amazon as a Senior Operations Manager with 500-1000 employees under him. Eventually, despite the stability, he wanted to experience the freedom of business ownership. “I wanted to become an entrepreneur and provide a service that is needed in my own community.” he states. “I have an MBA and worked in engineering and at Amazon, it feels like my career has been building up to this and I feel I have a lot of tools that will help me be successful in launching a business.”
Josh was introduced to the healthcare industry through personal experiences with his grandmother. “All she wanted to do was stay in the comfort of her home at the end of her life,” Josh states. “That made me recognize that there's a real need in the world for home healthcare. That people want their loved ones to be able to stay in their house as long as possible.”
While exploring healthcare opportunities, Josh wanted to find a reputable healthcare brand committed to the highest standards of quality care. “BrightStar Care really impressed me with their commitment and values. "The support from other franchisees has been incredible," Josh shares. It's like being part of a big family where everyone is willing to help each other succeed."
BrightStar Care's comprehensive training program also played a crucial role in Josh’s decision. "The training was thorough and covered every aspect of running a franchise," he says. "Every step of the way, it feels like I have an advantage because there are systems and people in place as opposed to having to start from scratch and figure it out myself.”
A Journey Defined by Purpose
His vision for his franchise extends beyond just providing care. He aims to create a supportive environment for both his clients and his team. “I want to create a welcoming atmosphere at my office but also help grow my team and help my team members develop into their own roles,” he states. Josh plans to open his franchise in Spokane, Washington, this August, aiming to establish a haven for compassionate care and foster a community-centric environment in his community.
